The Research & Development department for Thomson Reuters would like to invite qualified applicants to apply for an open Research Scientist position in their New York City area location. The Research & Development department performs applied research in information retrieval, natural language processing, machine learning, information and event extraction, text classification, data mining, summarization, and named entity recognition and resolution. The department offers a collegial work environment, where you will work with a team of talented scientists and software professionals on challenging real-world problems.
This position requires significant expertise in data mining and hands-on expertise in the processing, representation, and transformations of large data sets, including transactional data. Hands on expertise working with customer data or financial data is a plus.
Principal duties:
Conducting applied research in data mining, information retrieval, text mining, or related areas in the context of large online delivery environments.
Execution of such projects, including: - The implementation of prototypes and the design of experiments to evaluate them
- designing and performing large scale experiments to validate key algorithms and architectures associated with such prototypes, followed by written reports
- liaison with other departments concerning transition of prototypes into production
- collaboration with software engineers engaged in the construction of prototypes
Custom development on key projects with a research component- Applicants should have a graduate degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
- Relevant experience in data mining research is required. Additional experience in natural language processing, machine learning, information extraction, document classification, summarization, or named entity extraction and resolution is a plus.
- Hands on expertise in the processing, representation, and transformation of large amounts of data is required. Significant expertise in DBMS is required.
- Substantial experience with UNIX or Windows environment.
- Proficiency in a programming language for research purposes.
- Good oral and written communication skills; ability to write technical reports of publishable quality.
- Position and compensation commensurate with experience.
