Responsibilities:

The Analytic Applications and Research area of ISO Innovative Analytics serves a critical function by connecting Analytical R&D efforts with key Customer groups. It provides the crucial “translation” function, allowing R&D activities to progress unencumbered, while enabling their success by positioning them with key stakeholder groups including – Regulators, potential Customers, and Development partners. In addition, this area utilizes feedback from these stakeholders to develop prototypes of new analytical efforts.

In addition to familiarity with analytical techniques and predictive modeling, the successful candidate must be an accomplished communicator, with demonstrated experience in dealing with internal and external stakeholders. The position requires communication with customer/regulators and includes some amount of travel (20-50%).

The Director (or Manager) of the Analytic Applications and Research function will take a leadership role and will work closely with the Executive team to set direction, role, and activities for Analytic Applications and Research function. Broad responsibilities of the function include –

  • Leading proof-of-concept studies to demonstrate value of new analytical efforts
    • Collaborating with other iiA researchers, including academic research partners, to develop prototype initiatives
    • Communicating results of these studies to executive leadership team and other stakeholders
  • Supporting the Productization of Analytical Tools
    • Performing state-specific model adjustments, smoothing, geo-spatial analyses, sub-group testing, etc.
    • Supporting the Filing team with analysis, reason-code explanations, and on-the-ground support such as DOI visits (if needed)
    • Working with R&D and Product Management to determine specs for model implementation in production
  • Developing analyses to support Marketing/Sales activities
    • Establishing novel ways of assessing the business impact/value of model lift
    • Performing comparative studies (e.g., ISO models vs Credit, etc.) to help position ISO solutions
    • Writing white-papers and helping develop Sales/Marketing collateral
  • Customizing industry models for Development partners
    • Performing GLM and other modeling (as appropriate) to build custom models for development partners (leveraging Industry models developed by the R&D teams)
    • Presenting model results to Development partners, including lift-analyses
  • Providing technical support for Sales activities
    • Setting-up processes for analyzing and demonstrating “lift” for Pilot testers
    • Working with Pilot testing carriers to in-source data, perform lift analysis, and communicate results
    • Providing technical expertise on Sales calls with potential customers

Skills and Qualifications
  • Advanced quantitative degree (Masters or PhD) with experience building and/or managing predictive modeling initiatives is required
  • 8+ years of experience in Analytics is required, with 3+ years of experience in P&C insurance (preferably in Actuarial functions).
  • Demonstrated P&C domain knowledge through qualifications such as FCAS/ACAS or CPCU is a plus.
  • Experience with filing rating plans or working with Departments of Insurance is a big plus.
  • Project and team leadership experience is required. Experience working with customers is a big plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with diverse statistical and data mining methods (e.g., GLM/Regression, Trees, Neural nets, SVMs, etc.) is desirable.
  • Ability to lead initiatives, plan activities and resources, work hands-on, manage/develop staff, and mentor junior members, is required
  • Must be self-motivated and passionate about creating analytical solutions for diverse and challenging problems.
  • Team-player, with strong communication, motivational, and mentoring skills.
