Senior Statistical Modeler / Marketing Scientist - ThinkVine (Cincinnati, OH)

ThinkVine, a privately-held, venture-backed, marketing science solutions company is accepting resumes for a Senior Statistical Modeler / Marketing Scientist in our Cincinnati office. This position will support a wide variety of analytic initiatives in ThinkVine's consulting group. These include segmentation, consumer behavior analysis, sales forecasting, response prediction, advertising effectiveness, market mix modeling and ROI measurement. The candidate may be involved at all levels of a project, such as research design, data manipulation, analysis, reporting and presentation.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, plans, executes and interprets quantitative analysis of customer data.
  • Assists with data cleaning, recoding and variable transformations for analysis.
  • Performs data diagnostics and other quality control checks to ensure accuracy of work.
  • Writes and presents clear, effective, actionable findings based on analyses.
  • Illustrates data graphically and translates complex findings into clear, concise visuals.
  • Distills insights from the analysis to offer business recommendations by identifying meaningful consumer indicators and trends.

Requirements
  • Expert knowledge of SPSS or other statistical package (e.g. SAS, STATA).
  • Practical experience conducting statistical techniques such as regression analysis, factor analysis, and clustering.
  • An understanding of the underlying models, when to apply them, how to conduct the analysis and interpret the insights derived from the results.
  • Ability to write clear and insightful reports in PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with various types of data, including data sourced from consumer surveys, as well as from large (and often messy) customer databases. Ability to extract, clean and format data for analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, but also able to solve problems independently.
  • Graduate degree preferred in an analytic field such as statistics, economics, mathematics, psychology, sociology or business.
  • At least three years of experience in market research, database analysis or other areas that emphasizes the analysis and reporting of business data.

The following skill sets are not required, but desirable
  • Econometric and other quantitative skills are a plus, such as neural networks, genetic algorithms, Bayesian estimation, mathematical optimizations and simulation techniques.
  • Ability to develop experimental designs and conduct analysis for conjoint/choice modeling.
  • Ability to program in Excel using VBA.
  • Experience with Business Intelligence and Data Mining Applications.

A successful candidate would have the ability to conduct detailed analysis and uncover gaps or inconsistencies in the data, which could negatively impact model results. Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate detailed statistical findings in clear business terms to senior business managers are needed. Needs to work well both independently and within a team environment, and must be able to evaluate data mining and statistical modeling software.
