Principal Software Engineer - ValueClick (Santa Barbara, CA)

Commission Juction's Principle Software Engineer provides technical consultation to management on broad, complex problems which require outstanding theoretical and practical experience in technical fields. Works on complex problems requiring in-depth evaluation of various factors.

• BS degree or equivalent in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field is preferred, with a minimum of 7 years of directly related work experience. 5 years of work experience is required for individuals holding a MS or higher degree in one of these fields. Equivalent experience may be substituted for formal education.
• Demonstrated expertise in one or more object oriented languages (e.g. C++ or Java), and one or more scripting languages (e.g. Unix shell, PERL, Java script). Expertise in OOAD principles and methodologies (e.g. UML). Extensive knowledge and discipline in software lifecycle process
• Expertise with Internet technologies (e.g. HTML, XML, TCP/IP) required.
• Expertise with relational database technologies (SQL, schema design) highly desired
• Recognized as local expert in more advanced programming environments and concepts (e.g. J2EE, multi-threaded programming)
• Excellent understanding of Project Management methodologies and tools (e.g. MS Project)
• Develops and applies advanced state-of-the-art engineering theories, methods, and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex problems affecting a major project.
• Participates with upper management and high level engineers in early stages of multiple project definitions.
• Serves as engineering consultant to management. Acts in a consulting capacity to various research, design, and development activities on projects and problems requiring special technical expertise.
• Participates in determining feasibility of proposed projects and the overall plan for implementation.
• Prepares and gives formal presentations/reviews in areas of specialization to management and customers.
• Analyzes, evaluates, and plans methods of approach to solve problems central to an assigned research or programming project. Establishes the theoretical basis and principles which would apply, the empirical test procedures to be used, and the estimated resources for completion. May conduct independent research or, as directed, plan and conduct projects or phases of projects.
• May provide principal technical guidance and leadership across related projects or disciplines in own area of expertise. Identifies technical opportunities and recommends programs to management in such areas as product development, cost reduction, reliability, and performance improvements.
• Reviews progress and evaluates results of assigned technical projects. Recommends necessary actions based on analysis.
• Coordinates the technical design activity with others in department to ensure consistent and integrated approaches across projects.
• Provides input to and generates documentation for new or existing projects. Establishes and maintains thorough and accurate documentation of all work. Prepares status, technical, and management reports as required.
• Maintains continuous quality improvement in meeting internal and external customer requirements
