Postdoc, Statistical modelling of sediment records (Sweden)
Postdoctoral fellow at Umeå University, Sweden
Statistical modelling of sediment records to study environment and climate change.
The successful applicant is expected to develop and apply statistical methods to analyse properties of varved lake sediments with high temporal resolution over long time periods. The objective is to study past changes in the environment, in particular climate variability, based on an existing 4000 years record of lake sediment data.
The position is for a time period of one year with a possible prolongation for another period of one year. The post doc will be based at the Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics, within a project run in close collaboration with scientists at the Department of Ecology and Environmental Science. Therefore an interest to collaborate across disciplines is essential.
To qualify for the position you need a PhD degree in mathematical statistics or statistics, preferably not older than five years. Experience relevant to the project is an advantage, but applicants will be ranked primarily based on their scientific achievements. Topics relevant to the project include time series analysis, multivariate analysis and functional data analysis.
For further information, please contact associate professor Sara Sjöstedt de Luna, +46-90-7865129, sara@math.umu.se, or associate professor Anders Fällström (Head of department), +46-90-7865376, anders.fallstrom@math.umu.se.
