TITLE: Data Warehouse Developer
Job Summary:
The primary purpose and function of the Data Warehouse Developer is to design, develop, test and support the data warehouse environment including requirements gathering, ETL development and front-end presentation. The candidate should have experience in the transformation of operational data into an environment that provides customers with the capability to make decisions.
Primary responsibilities: - Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable data warehousing/BI applications.
- Determine/document requirements across many aspects of project iterations. Educate customers on DW capabilities towards achieving greatest leverage of data for efficient and effective decision-making.
- Design and maintain graphical user interfaces (GUI) used in conjunction with web portals for presentation and reporting.
- Design and maintain the staging and worktables associated with data warehouse extract / transformation development.
- Design, develop Metadata repository.
- Act as a lead resource to provide technical solutions and recommendations, ensuring that solutions align with long-term strategies.
- Actively participate in developing standards/best practices in design and maintenance.
- Analyze business data and processes to recommend solutions.
- Provide on-call production support.
Required knowledge and skills:- Strong desire to stay current with technology particularly in data warehousing and business intelligence.
- Strong knowledge of data warehousing techniques based upon the Kimball methodology.
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
- Ability to cross train and mentor other developers on data warehousing skills and new technologies.
- High level of organizational ability and demonstrated systematic approach in carrying out assignments.
- Excellent problem solving skills – a strong ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.
- High level of initiative, integrity, and flexibility.
- Excellent customer service skills.
Required Experience:- Five to seven years experience in the design, implementation, and support of a Kimball method data warehouse on SQL Server or Oracle.
- Successful experience working as a lead/architect on systems with complex data flow and processing and with large transactional and reporting databases.
- Skilled in data warehouse design including logical and physical star schema data models, extraction / transformation of data.
- Expertise and experience in the development and support of OLAP cubes, data mining, and data analysis tools.
- Experience with Metadata repository development and maintenance.
Experience with any of the following is a plus, but not required:- Oracle Warehouse Builder, Microsoft DTS / SSIS, Informatica, or similar ETL tool.
- .Net using C#, and ASP, using object oriented techniques.
- SQL, database and transaction processing concepts, knowledge of query analysis tools and performance optimization of queries.
- Graphical User Interface (GUI) design, implementation, and support.
- Design and development of stored procedures.
- Decision support tools.
Education:- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
- Microsoft certifications considered a plus, but are not required.
