Business Analyst/Data Analyst, contract (Bay Area, CA)

Job Description:

Looking for a motivated data quality analyst who can support the company**s corporate objective to improve data quality. The Data Quality Analyst will work in support of the data stewards, other business users and IT team members to improve data management within Enterprise Data Quality Team. This position will involve analyzing data quality issues, making recommendations, and supporting data quality and reporting solutions

The data quality analyst will:

• Use business analysis skills, to work with others to understand the context of data quality issues.
• Measure the extent of the issue using the Business Objects Data Quality profiling tool
• Analyze and communicate the meaning of the results to business team members in business meaningful and actionable terms.
• Work with the data steward owner(s) to assign criticality of discovered inaccuracies and document risk analysis if deemed necessary.
• Provide detailed reports to support manual cleanup of the data by the business.
• Work with IT team members to understand the root causes for data inaccuracies and develop recommendations on how the business can constantly improve its data quality.
• Implement monitoring and notification processes to proactively identify and resolve data quality issues under guidance of Project Manager.
• Develop summary data quality reports and metrics for management
• Administer the data quality tool, including vendor management, access rights and running upgrade projects
• This role will also include backup data quality support duties such as reference data maintenance, data modeling tool administration and metadata maintenance etc.

• 5 years of experience, including 2 years direct involvement with business analysis, data analysis or data quality process improvement initiatives
• Understanding of data profiling, business/data analysis, and data quality issues
• Business analysis experience gathering requirements! for oth er types of IT related projects
• Experience developing reporting solutions using a relational database, including a proficiency in SQL
• Experience with a commercial data quality tool or equivalent experience using queries
• Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with both technical and business audiences; Person must have good presentation skills.
• Bachelors degree in a technical discipline such as Computer Science.
• Ability to multi-task and function well independently
• Experience analyzing existing mature systems, e.g., legacy data.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and organizational skills (expectation setting and working with team member of different working styles)
• Must understand data modeling and databases, SDLC experience within an IT organization.
• A working knowledge of data architecture design principles and standards, including meta data and data modeling
• Experience with Business Object Data Quality or other data quality tools
• Experience with complete IT project lifecycle implementations, including the on time delivery of those projects
• Familiarity with Data insight and Crystal Reports and query development
• Working knowledge of MS SQL and Oracle relational database systems
